Experience the raw and rugged beauty of the South Island, as you journey from the base of Mt Cook along the foothills of the Southern Alps, through to the spectacular region of Central Otago. This tour encompasses continuous entity of vast baren landscapes encapsulated by rugged peaks and stunning aqua-blue glacial lakes. The colour scheme of this natural beauty is to die for. The accommodation is an eclectic mix, ranging from rustic and characteristic high country station homesteads to luxurious lakeside apartments. This tour is designed for the seasoned cyclist but also ecompasses options for the more casual rider.



DAY 1 Journey from Christchurch through the Canterbury Plains, to Mt Cook via Lake Tekapo and Pukakai. You make take an optional flight over Lake Pukakai into Aoraki / Mount Cook, followed by a circumnavigation of the surrounding glaciers and high country(not included in price).

DAY 2 Distance: 64 km Altitude gain: 307 m
Mt Cook to Twizel – Ride along side the breathtaking aqua blue foreshores of Lake Pukaki. Stop for some fresh sashimi at the local salmon farm and continue on to the small rural town of Twizel.

DAY 3 Distance: 78 km Altitude gain: 327 m
Twizel to Omarama via Ohau – Enjoy a valleys of south Canterbury, before detouring to Lake Ohau for lunch.

DAY 4 Distance: 111 km Altitude gain: 889 m
Omarama to Wanaka – This is the toughest day with a grueling climb over the Lindis rugged barren plains of central Otago.

DAY 5 Distance: 76 km Altitude gain: 952 m
Wanaka to Queenstown - A spectacular ride over one of NZ’s most famous passes ‘the Crown Range’. Stop for a coffee at the iconic Cardrona Hotel before continuing your climb towards the pass. Experience incredible panoramic views from the top over Queenstown, the Remarkables and Lake Waikatipu. Enjoy an invigorating descent into into Queenstown.
